Meet ophthalmologist Dr Geoffrey Chan, Optometrist Mr Luke Arundel, Pharmacist Ms Khanh Nguyen, and Orthoptist Ms Mara Giribaldi who will share how each of their professions support people with glaucoma and work collaboratively in providing your care.

Speakers:

  • Dr Geoffrey Chan, Ophthalmologist.

Dr Chan graduated with honours in medicine from The University of Western Australia. After completing his ophthalmic specialty training, he undertook a Fellowship position in both Complex cataract and Glaucoma at Fremantle and Royal Perth Hospital, before a further advanced Glaucoma Fellowship at the internationally renowned Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
 

He holds a Masters in Medical Science (University of Western Australia), as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education through the University of Cambridge.
 

Dr Chan’s research work investigates the structural and functional characteristics of the optic nerve laminar regions. He has a particular focus on OCT imaging and other non-invasive imaging modalities to characterize the features of the conjunctival lymphatics and how this may predict the success of glaucoma surgery.

He is an invited reviewer for editorial boards and has published book chapters and numerous papers in both local and international peer reviewed ophthalmic journals.

 

  • Luke Arundel, Chief Clinical Officer at Optometry Australia.

Mr Arundel graduated with Honours in Optometry from Queensland University of Technology and has worked extensively in Australia and Ireland. His professional interests include keratoconus, post-graft and scleral lens fitting, dry eye, ortho-keratology and paediatric contact lenses. He has worked in specialty contact lens practices in Brisbane and Melbourne and in the contact lens manufacturing field along with time in the public health and education sectors.
 

  • Khanh Nguyen, Community Pharmacist and Acting Senior Manager at Pharmacy Guild of Australia - Queensland Branch.

Ms Nguyen is a Community Pharmacist and Acting Senior Manager at Pharmacy Guild of Australia. She worked as a community pharmacist for 17 years after completing a B.Pharm (UQ) in Queensland. She was also on the frontline in a 24-hour Supercare Pharmacy in Victoria during the lockdown in 2020. Her areas of interest include mental health, pharmacy education, and integrative pharmacy. Ms Nguyen has been working with Glaucoma Australia's Clinical Committee since June 2020.
 

  • Mara Giribaldi, Orthoptist and Associate Lecturer at UTS.

Ms Mara Giribaldi is an Orthoptist and Associate Lecturer at UTS. She has worked as an Orthoptist in clinical practice in varying roles in the public, private and community sectors, from paediatric clinics, neurology and brain injury units, glaucoma and cataract clinics, LASIK environments, private Orthoptic practice, school vision screening and baby health clinics.

 

Since 2001 Mara predominantly practiced in the niche area of macular degeneration, medical retina and clinical research trials where she developed her skills in retinal diagnostics especially ocular scanning, photography and angiography. Mara's current role in education covers the many eye related conditions and their assessments including glaucoma in the subject Ocular Pathology.
